HELEN MANDLEY

My interest is socially engaged art. I explore the mechanics of groups, the street talk, the unfortunate and the everyday through my work. Here is my journey on creating film clips, photography and sculpture.

MY WORK

SNAPSHOTS OF SURVIVAL

Ongoing since 2013

Snapshots of survival is a set of work that is taken on my camera or my phone, this work takes it's own direction as it is of the everyday. Without planning, insight or research the situations will lead me to capture these shots.

KUWG LIFE

Ongoing since October 2015

As a member of Kilburn Unemployed Workers Group, I am an embedded artist, documenting actions. These include protests, meetings and support for benefit claimants and those facing hardship due to the UK's government austerity measures. Working with a basic canon DSLR, Go Pro Hero and an iphone I have managed to film interactions in the public eye and in our weekly meetings. The challenges are being unable to expose the members and to be aware of publics anonyminity.

OBJECTS OF REFLECTION AND REPRESENTATION

Ongoing since 2013

Sculptural work, is often related to my thoughts and gathered information and experiences within the context of social and political issues. Mostly exploring my emotions relating to individulas or my own life.
